Since its inception in 1906, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences has been a leader in the agri-food industry in Manitoba. The standard of excellence it has attained in its teaching and research programs is recognized across Canada and around the world.

The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences has earned a reputation for its high-calibre teaching programs and its friendly helpful staff. Students benefit not only from the expertise of staff in the Faculty, but also from the close proximity of other faculties on campus, federal research facilities, and a vibrant Winnipeg-based agricultural community.

The Faculty of Agricultural & Food Sciences is more than just farming. Grads have found careers in all sectors of the agri-food industry from food processing to finance…from environmental work to international development.

There are four choices of Bachelor of Science degrees you can obtain: Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agroecology, and Food Science. After getting your degree you will have the skills needed for a professional career in the agriculture and food industry. Students will also have the necessary education to study at a graduate level.

Another option is the two-year Agriculture diploma. This combines an academic study of agricultural sciences with practical activities and projects on a wide range of agricultural subjects.

Both degree and diploma students can choose to participate in the Cooperative Education program, which integrates direct work experience in an organization with academic study.

With the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Biosystems Engineering offers students a unique education, combining biological or environmental applications in engineering, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Biosystems Engineering. This degree also can be used as a pre-Med program to gain admission to the Faculty of Medicine.

A Pre-Veterinary Studies program is offered to students who plan to take the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Pre-veterinary students with proper academic may be admitted each year to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. Acceptance into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine from the pre-veterinary program at the University of Manitoba is normally restricted to residents of Manitoba.
